Prompt Language | Create Great Meta Descriptions With Keywords

I was playing around with my new subscription to ChatGPT this morning and decided to create some prompts that would help me spiff up a lot of old posts on a bunch of my information oriented websites.

I do rank-track each of my blog posts by main keyword, so I already have lists of the most important keywords formatted in list form.. My goal was to work from those keyword lists, entering them into ChatGPT to get useful, compelling copy back.

By the way, if you don’t have an overall planning worksheet for each of your websites, please consider it. I keep mine on my Google Drive, and I find it absolutely essential for planning ahead and remembering what’s already been done.

This particular prompt is for meta descriptions, and I see them as perfect opportunities to “sell” someone on clicking on my website in search results. I’m not a titles, as well, but that’s in another post.

Here’s the language as I’ve written it. It’s also saved and shared with the AIRPM community HERE so that anyone else can use it. I would certainly appreciate your up close over there if you find it as useful as I do.

Prompt Language

Target Language is [TARGETLANGUAGE]
Turn each of the following keywords into a compelling 2nd person meta description. Includes the keyword, exactly as it's written in the list below, near the beginning of the meta description. The entire description must be at least 130 characters in length, but no longer than 160 characters in length:
[PROMPT]

The prompt is, of course, your keyword list. Format them in a list before pasting them into ChatGPT, one to a line.

Here’s what I’ve aimed for:

  • 2nd person voice, suitable for any CTA
  • Use the keyword as early as possible in the middle description
  • Use the key word exactly as written (although, that’s been hit or miss)
  • Limit the meta description to 160 characters so that it’s all visible in each search result page

An AI Output Example

Here’s a list of meta titles I generated from some bedding-related keywords:

“Wrap yourself in comfort with our weighted blanket. Perfect for cozying up on the couch or in bed.”

“Sleep like royalty on our plush king size bed, designed for ultimate comfort and support.”

“Experience the ultimate in comfort with a Tempurpedic mattress, expertly crafted for a better night’s sleep.”

“Find your perfect sleep number with our innovative bed, designed to adjust to your individual comfort level.”

Final Thoughts

Meta descriptions are a huge part of the secret to bringing in extra clicks from search results. But, the second key component is having a convincing title.

I’ve written that prompt, too. Here’s a link to my meta titles creation prompt post.
